OK, i know Christmas is over, but it would not be Christmas unless i reviewed a Christmas themed beer. Luckily my parents kindly put one under the tree for me to open on Christmas day. Naturally, once i was presented with the wrapped gift, i instantly knew what i was about to receive. Looking at the bottle i did let out a chuckle. It looks like jolly saint Nick had been enjoying a few of these brews himself as he fly's over the world delivering his presents.

Rosey Nosey

Batman's is a family owned brewery based in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, England. They have been brewing since 1874 and the brewery has been past down from generation to generation. They normally brew five "permanent" beers but they will often brew many seasonal beers including Rosey Nosey. Now i will admit that i have never heard of Bateman's before drinking Rosey but i will now keep an eye out for them when ever i am up in the North. 

Colour: Dark Copper/ Ruby Red Ale abit like Santa's cheeks above.

Smell: On the nose its smells a lot like a spotted dick and sweet toffee. I should explain that spotted dick is not an old school friend. Its actually a British suet pudding that contains dried fruit (normally currants, raisins and sultanas. 

Body: Very rich and luxurious a bit like Guinness in texture. It can also be a little acidic once it has been drunk.

Taste: Sweet dried fruit from the Maris Otter malts with a slightly burnt toffee notes. It has quite a bitter finish which was just on the threshold of what i enjoy. It went down very nicely with my Christmas pudding and it was not to gassy. Of course after a large Christmas dinner this is the last thing you need.

One of the other important things to note about this beer is that this is a vegan beer. This means that the beer meets the vegan society's standards on preparation and bottling. Some brewers will use a product called isinglass (from fish bladders) or gelatin to help grab the impurities during the filtration process. By having the vegan society trademark on there bottle, Bateman's use animal-free alternatives during their brewing process.
